Find a Tutor in South Africa
Extra Lessons SA is preparing a directory of tutors offering online and in-person extra lessons across South Africa. The directory is not live yet, so there are no tutor profiles to browse at this stage.
The tutor directory is being prepared. We do not list tutors yet and will only publish profiles once real tutors have registered.
How the search will work
When the directory launches, you will be able to narrow results by:
Subject
Maths, English, Afrikaans, Physical Sciences, Accounting and more.
School level
From the Intermediate Phase through to Grade 12 and matric rewrites.
Location
Suburb, city or province for in-person extra lessons.
Online or in person
Lessons at home, at an agreed venue, or over video.
Availability
Afternoons, evenings, weekends or school holidays.
What to consider when choosing a tutor
Subject and curriculum fit. Ask whether the tutor works with the CAPS curriculum, IEB or another syllabus, and whether they regularly teach the grade your child is in. A strong Grade 8 Maths tutor is not automatically the right fit for Grade 12 Mathematics.
Experience and references. Ask how long they have tutored, what qualifications or studies they have, and whether they can put you in touch with other parents they have worked with.
Lesson format and frequency. Decide whether one-on-one or small group lessons suit your child, and how often lessons need to happen to keep up with schoolwork.
Practical arrangements. Confirm rates, travel, cancellation arrangements and where lessons take place. For online lessons, check the data and device requirements before you commit.
Safety. For in-person lessons, meet the tutor first, choose a suitable venue and stay involved in how lessons are going.
