This notice explains what personal information Extra Lessons SA collects, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
This notice is a plain-language draft prepared for the site owner. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and should be checked against POPIA requirements, including information officer registration, before relying on it.
Who we are
Extra Lessons SA is a South African platform that lists independent tutors and passes enquiries from parents, guardians and adult learners to them.
What we collect from tutors
Name, email address, phone number, province, city, suburb, subjects, grades, curriculum, lesson options, years of experience, experience description, qualifications as stated by you, indicative rate, biography and an optional photo. We also store a one-way hash derived from your network address to limit spam.
Your email address and phone number are never published. Your name, location, subjects, grades, curriculum, experience, qualifications, rate, biography and photo appear on your public profile once approved.
What we collect from enquiries
Your name, email address, optional phone number, the subject, grade, area and lesson type you are interested in, and your message. Please do not include unnecessary personal information about a child. Enquiry details are visible only to the Extra Lessons SA administrator and are used to respond to you and to connect you with a tutor.
Why we use it
To check tutor applications (including automated screening of the text and photo by an AI service acting for us), publish profiles that pass, respond to enquiries, pass enquiries to the relevant tutor, investigate reports, and prevent spam and abuse.
Storage, sharing and retention
Information is stored in a secured database with access restricted to the site administrator. We do not sell personal information. We share enquiry details with the tutor the enquiry is about. We keep applications and enquiries for as long as needed to run the service, and delete them on request unless we must keep them.
Your choices
You may ask us to correct or delete your information, or to unpublish your tutor profile, at any time. Contact the site owner through the enquiry form and we will action reasonable requests.
