Find extra lessons and tutors in South Africa
Extra Lessons SA connects parents and learners with independent tutors for school subjects, exam preparation and extra academic support — online or in person, from Grade R to matric.
Tutors confirm their email and profiles are checked automatically for spam and content problems before going live. We do not run identity, qualification or background checks — read exactly what we do check.
Two ways to start
I need a tutor
Browse tutors by subject, grade, curriculum, province and lesson type, then send an enquiry straight to the tutor. The directory is new and grows as tutors apply.
I teach extra lessons
Apply with your subjects, grades, curriculum, experience, qualifications and indicative rate. Confirm your email and, if your profile passes our automatic checks, it goes live straight away. You keep your own rates and arrangements with families.
Subjects and grades
Tutors list the subjects and grades they teach, following the CAPS, IEB or Cambridge curriculum. Extra Lessons SA is an independent platform and is not affiliated with any school, examination body or government department.

Online and in-person lessons
In-person lessons work well where a tutor travels to you or hosts lessons nearby — in and around Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha and Bloemfontein, among other areas. Online lessons open up subject specialists to families in smaller towns and rural areas where a local Physical Sciences or Accounting tutor can be hard to find.
Many families use a mix: online during the week for homework and revision, and in-person sessions before controlled tests or the final matric exams.
