About Extra Lessons SA

Extra Lessons SA exists to make it easier for South African parents and learners to find suitable academic support, and to give independent tutors a dedicated platform to present their services.

Why we are building it

Finding extra lessons in South Africa usually comes down to word of mouth, a school noticeboard or a community group. That works if you happen to know the right person. If you don’t, finding a Maths or Physical Sciences tutor who teaches your child’s grade, in your area or online, takes far longer than it should.

Independent tutors have the same problem in reverse. Many are experienced and capable, but have no straightforward way of being found by the families who need them.

Extra Lessons SA brings the two together: one place where parents and learners can search by subject, level, location and lesson type, and where tutors can set out what they teach and how they work.

Our mission

To make it simple for any South African family to find suitable academic support, online or in person, and to help independent tutors be found by the families who need them, while being honest about what the platform does and does not check.

How Extra Lessons SA works

Extra Lessons SA is an independent marketplace. Tutors set out what they teach, their rates and how they work. Parents and learners search by subject, level, location and lesson type, then contact a tutor directly. Tutors are independent and not employed or supervised by us. Checks are automated and limited, so we encourage families to make their own enquiries before arranging lessons.

Where we are now

Extra Lessons SA has recently opened. Tutor applications, public profiles and enquiries are live. Tutors must confirm their email, and each application is checked automatically for spam and content problems; anything flagged or uncertain is reviewed by a person before it can go live. We do not publish tutor numbers, reviews, ratings or testimonials.
